WOO HOO! It’s PUB DAY!!

You may be wondering….what the heck is “pub day?” Pub day is the day your book gets published. I also think of it as the birthday of my main character, Zoe Goldman. Since this is a trilogy, each birthday has meant something different to both her and me.

Pub Day #1: Little Black Lies. Zoe Goldman was born! It took me a year to write her and a year to sell her (so it was a looong pregnancy). Zoe is a psychiatrist with plenty of her own baggage who is searching for the truth about her birth mother. In the end, she discovers the harrowing truth, that some secrets are best left buried.

Zoe’s favorite pub day birthday present? The book was selected as a finalist for best first novel in the International Thriller Awards!

Pub Day #2: The Girl Without a Name. Zoe has moved on to her child psychiatry elective at the Children’s Hospital. She is trying to find out the identity of Jane Doe, an African-American teenager who was brought in by the police in a catatonic state.

Best pub day birthday gift? The unexpected kindness of Salman Rushdie tweeting me.

PUB DAY #3!!! TODAY! The Secret Room. Zoe is now in her forensic psychiatry fellowship at a Buffalo prison. But, her patients keep dying. Some are suicides, some accidental overdoses, and some murders. As the deaths mount up, Zoe is wracked with horror and guilt, feverishly trying to figure out what’s going wrong and even questioning her own sanity. What Zoe doesn’t realize is that someone is targeting her patients to get to her. Someone who will stop at nothing to take everything she has, even her life.

Best birthday pub day present? We’ll find out soon!!!
