Gin Phillips has written six novels, ranging from historical fiction to literary thriller to children’s books. Her work has been sold in 29 countries.
Gin’s debut novel, The Well and the Mine, won the 2009 Barnes & Noble Discover Award. The Los Angeles Times called it “an astonishing debut” and noted that “a whisper runs through the novel — the ghosts of places and people and luscious peach pies, making it a combination of dream and nightmare, nightmare and dream.”
Her novel Fierce Kingdom was named one of the Best Crime Novels of 2017 by The New York Times Book Review. It was also named one of the best books of the year by NPR, Publishers Weekly, Amazon, and Kirkus Reviews. A Kirkus starred review called the novel “poignant and profound,” adding that “this adrenaline-fueled thriller will shatter readers like a bullet through bone.” The New York Times called it “expertly made…clever and irresistible,” noting that “Phillips…beautifully captures the quirks, tedium and magic of parenting a young child.”
Her latest novel, Family Law, was named one of CrimeReads’ Notable Selections for Best Crime Novel of 2021. Born in Montgomery, Al., Gin graduated from Birmingham-Southern College with a degree in political journalism. She currently lives with her family in Birmingham.
