Let’s give a warm Poppy welcome to debut author Jamie Raintree as she celebrates the release of Perfectly Undone (available now – get your copy, it’s fabulous!).

The road to publication is twisty at best–tell us about some of your twists.
My journey to publication has had a lot of the usual ups and downs, but I’d say the most interesting twist was when I signed with my publisher. My agent submitted it to—and got an offer from—an imprint of Harlequin and then a few weeks later, I got an email from her saying Harlequin was starting a new imprint and that they thought my book would be a perfect fit. I didn’t even know the name of it or any details for months but I’ve gotten to watch Graydon House blossom from the ground up and that has been very exciting to be a part of.

When you were a teenager, what did you think you’d be when you grew up?
I wanted to be Britney Spears. Very 90s girl here! I’ve been singing and dancing since I was old enough to walk but eventually I realized I was way too introverted to pursue a career in entertainment. As I prepare for my first book signing, I’m wondering just how far away I got from that…

What is your advice for aspiring writers?
If your goal is to build a career as a writer, treat your writing like a career from the get-go. In order for people to take you seriously as a writer—your family, your friends, an agent, a publisher, and most importantly, yourself—you have to take your writing seriously.

Share one quirk you have that most people don’t know about.
I’m obsessed with learning. I sit around and read non-fiction books about a myriad of topics as a hobby. #ravenclaw

What’s your next big thing?
I’m currently finishing up the second book I’m publishing with Graydon House—another women’s fiction novel that takes place in a vineyard. There’s an excerpt of it in the back of Perfectly Undone!

“Yes” is such a little word…

Dr. Dylan Michels has worked hard for a perfect life, so when her long-time boyfriend Cooper gets down on one knee, it should be the most perfect moment of all. Then why does she say no?

For too many years, Dylan’s been living for her sister, who never got the chance to grow up. But her attempts to be the perfect daughter, perfect partner, and perfect doctor haven’t been enough to silence the haunting guilt Dylan feels over her sister’s death—and the role no one knows she played in it.

Now Dylan must face her past if she and Cooper stand a chance at a future together. But when Cooper makes a startling confession of his own, can Dylan find the courage to define her own happiness, before her life becomes perfectly undone?

Set among the breezy days of a sultry Portland summer, Perfectly Undone is a deeply moving novel of family secrets, forgiveness and finding yourself in the most surprising of places.

Jamie Raintree is voracious student of life, which is why she became a writer, where she could put all that acquired information to good use. She is a mother of two, a wife, a businesswoman, a nature-lover, and a wannabe yogi. She also teaches writers about business and productivity. Since the setting is always an important part of her books, she is happy to call the Rocky Mountains of Northern Colorado her home and inspiration.
